Objective 1.2 – Install View Standard and Replica Connection Server(s)

Identify minimum hardware and software requirements for installation

Hardware Requirements

Hardware Component Required Recommended
Processer Pentium IV 2.0GHZ or higher 4 CPUs
Networking One or more 10/100Mbps NICs 1Gbps NICs
Memory (Win2k8 64-bit) 4GB RAM or higher At least 10GB RAM for deployments of 0 or more View desktops
Memory (Win2k3 32-bit R2) 2GB RAM or higher 6GB RAM for deployments of 50 or more View desktops, and enable Physical Address Extenstion (PAE)

 

Software Requirements

  • View Connection Server must use a static IP address
  • Windows Server 2008 R2, 64-bit, Standard or Enterprise
  • Windows Server 2003 R2, 32-bit, Standard or Enterprise

Navigate the View Connection Server installation wizard

These steps cover the installation of your first View Connection Server. See the section below for installing a “Replica Server”.

 

Step 1 – Launch the View Connection Server executable:

Step 2 – Click “Next” on the VMware View Connection Server Welcome screen

Step 3 – Click “Next” on the End User Patent Agreement:

Step 4 – Accept the terms of the license agreement and click “Next” to continue:

Step 5 – Accept the default installation location or click the “Change” icon to select a different directory. Click “Next” to continue:

Step 6 – Select “View Standard Server” from the Installation Options. Click “Next” to continue:

Step 7 – If utilizing the Windows Firewall select the radial for “Configure Windows Firewall automatically”. Click “Next” to continue:

Step 8 – Review the installation directory and click “Install” to begin the installation:

Step 9 – After the installation completes click “Finish”:

Installing a Replica Connection Server

The process of installing a Replica Connection Server is very similar to installing a “standard” connection server. Follow the steps above till you get to Step 6. Continue from this point:

Step 6 – Select “View Standard Server” from the Installation Options. Click “Next” to continue:

Step 7 – Provide the hostname or IP address of the Source Server aka the first View Connection Server we created above:
