Objective 2.1 Configure View Composer

For this objective I used the following resources

Knowledge

Identify View Composer port settings

If using Windows Firewall or an other local firewall client, TCP port 18443 must be open to allow connectivity between View Composer and View Connection servers.

Identify domain accounts used for QuickPrep

QuickPrep is VMware View tool used to customize linked-clone desktops. QuickPrep executes using the account that VMware View Composer Guest Agent Server service is configured to run. By default this account is Local System. See the following VMware KB Article outlining the process of creating a QuickPrep user account:

Identify the vCenter Server system

Step 1 – Log into View Administrator:

Step 2 – Under “View Configuration” select “Servers”. In the left corner of the right side pane the “vCenter Servers” will be listed. When selecting a server you have the option to “Add”, “Edit”, or “Remove” a system:

Identify necessary account domain permissions and domain trust relationships

Review Objective 1.5 – Prepare Active Directory for Installation located HERE.

Enable View Composer from View Administrator and add domain account(s)

Prerequisites

  • Use the Active Directory account created in Objective 1.5 Prepare Active Directory for Installation with the appropriate permissions
  • Have added a vCenter Server as outlined above to View Administrator

Step 1 – Log into View Administrator

Step 2 – Under “View Configuration” select “Servers”. In the left corner of the right side pane select the vCenter Server listed and click “Edit”:

Step 3 – Check the box for “Enable View Composer” and click the “Add” button to add the domain user that will be used by Composer:

Step 4 – Add the FQDN, username and password for the View Composer Active Directory account. Click “OK” to complete:

Step 5 – Confirm the configuration is correct and click “OK” to finish:
